Hummus done the Southern way – with Sweet Potatoes


  • 1 lb. sweet potatoes
  • 1 tbsp. tahini
  • 1 tsp. cumin powder
  • 1 clove garlic (or 1/4 tsp garlic powder, or to taste
  • 1 large lemon, juiced
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • Pinch of fresh or dried parsley (optional)


  1. Bake sweet potato until fully cooked
  2. Allow potato to cool, then remove skin
  3. Add sweet potato and all other ingredients to food processor or blender
  4. Blend until smooth and creamy
  5. Adjust seasonings as desired
  6. Serve with veggies, pita bread, or chips
